What is Alma do Mar?

Capoeira “Alma do Mar” (soul of the sea) was born out of the love and serenity of the seaside, close to the physical location of our practice spaces, and inspired by the Brazilian goddess of the sea, Yemanja, whose spirit and energy protects us, and is a dedication to Professora Sonho’s mother, whose presence and peace is always found by the sea.

The Soul of the Sea/Alma do Mar is a symbol for our capoeira group to remember our roots, be thankful for our surroundings and enjoy life to the fullest.
